Dr. Alicia Garcia, RD CFE as the 2014 Kraft Food Executive of the Year

Toronto, ON May 18, 2014 – The Canadian Association of Foodservice Professionals/Association canadienne des professionels des services alimentaires (CAFP/ACPSA) announced Dr. Alicia Garcia, RD CFE as the 2014 Kraft Food Executive of the Year at its annual conference held in Ottawa, ON in April.

This award is presented in recognition of outstanding commitment and achievement in the foodservice industry and the community.

Alicia Garcia, CFE, London branch has been in the food service industry for 25 years. Alicia began her career as an Assistant professor of Food and Nutrition at Brescia College in London, Ontario after attaining a PhD in nutrition at Cornell University. She progressed from there and became an Associate professor in 2000. Since then, she worked through various roles to become Chair, Division of Food and Nutritional Sciences (with three departments under the division: Foods and Nutrition, Food Science and Technology, Graduate Program in Foods and Nutrition). In 2009, she became Full Professor of Foods and Nutrition and in 2013 has added the roll as Professor for Public Health in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry at Western.

Dr. Garcia is a leader and educator. She has been involved in the Ontario Task Force on Dietetic Education and Practical Training and the Canadian Association of Professional Programs in Human Nutrition. She is involved with the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry, on the curriculum Committee for the Masters of Public Health, as the Dietetics Representative in the Association of Health Sciences Network, and in the office of interprofessional health education and research. As a Registered Dietitian, she is an active member of six professional associations.

Alicia has been a CAFP member for 20 years in the London Branch. She has been a champion for students and has been the Faculty Advisor for the CAFP Branch at Brescia since 1994 when the student branch was formed. At the London branch, she has been the CFE Chair from 1998-2002 and from 2010 to the present.

Alicia has served her community through involvement with the Filipino Canadian Association of London and district, London Cross-Cultural Learning Centre, Women Immigrants of London and St. John the Divine Catholic church.
